Hawaiian drink named after Tia Carrere song

If Tia Carrere, one of five nominees in the Feb. 10 Grammy awards, cops the prize, she'll have a Hawaiian drink to celebrate.
Carrere's "Pua Olena" on her nominated CD "Hawaiiana" has inspired a cocktail with the the sweetness of the olena blossom. The drink, called "Pua Olena," is a creation by bartender Bob Melton of Chuck's Steakhouse at the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach; his recipe topped the Outrigger's annual Signature Drink Contest, which included competitors from Outrigger Reef on the Beach and Keauhou Beach Resort on the Big Island.
"The way Tia sings 'Pua Olena' inspired me to make a drink seeking the same sweet smell and essence of the olena blossom," said Melton.
The recipe blends ginger vodka, coconut rum, lychee liquer and fruit juices. It's Melton's second consecutive win, in which Hawai'i's Grammy-nominated music influences beverages among Outrigger hotel drink menus.
Carrere is known for such hit films as "True Lies" and "Wayne's World" and has expanded her audience base to include children by voicing Nani, the older sister character, on Disney's film and TV series "Lilo & Stitch."
