Dollar mixed against other currencies in trading

LONDON (AP) — The U.S. dollar was mixed against other major currencies in late European trading Wednesday. Gold fell.

The euro traded at $1.4721, down from $1.4833 late Tuesday in New York. Later, in midday trading in New York, the euro fetched $1.4637.

Other dollar rates in Europe, compared with late Tuesday, included 106.63 Japanese yen, down from 107.07; 1.0940 Swiss francs, up from 1.0913; and 1.0239 Canadian dollars, up from 1.0165.

The British pound was quoted at $1.9658, up from $1.9644.

In midday New York trading, the dollar bought 107.41 yen and 1.1013 Swiss francs, while the pound was worth $1.9617.

Gold traded in London at $876.10 per troy ounce, down from $909.40 late Tuesday. In Zurich, gold traded at $876.25 bid per troy ounce, down from $908.10.

Silver closed in London at $15.73, down from $16.37.
