Advertiser Staff

Big Island police today charged a Kea'au man for allegedly threatening a woman with an assault rifle.

Van Uemura, 29, was charged with first-degree terroristic threatening and abuse of a family/household member at 11:40 a.m. He was released after posting $2,000 bail.

Uemura was arrested Wednesday after a one-hour standoff with police on Ipuaiwaha Street in the Ke'eau Ag Lots subdivision. Police had gone to investigate a domestic argument report involving a weapon at 7:55 a.m. and assist a woman, 28, in leaving a home.

While there, police allegedly saw Uemura with an assault rifle.
