Maui Community College program in national spotlight

Advertiser Staff

Maui Community College's Sustainable Living Institute of Maui has been named one of 10 national finalists for the 2008 Bellwether Award in the workforce development category.

The Bellwether Awards are presented annually to innovative programs and practices.

The 2008 winners will be announced at the 2008 Community College Futures Assembly, Jan. 26-29 in Orlando, Fla.

Maui Community College's entry "highlighted the college's efforts to facilitate and promote a variety of sustainability initiatives on campus and in the community at large," according to a news release from the school.

Those initiatives included hosting the IX Islands of the World Conference attended by more than 230 participants from 25 island nations.
