NFL: Bills sign 6-year veteran fullback Barnes

Associated Press

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — The Buffalo Bills signed fullback Darian Barnes today.

Barnes, a reserve future free agent, played five games and made four starts with the New York Jets this past season. The six-year veteran was released by the Jets in November.

The Bills will be using a fullback this year on offense after not having any on their roster in 2007. Buffalo used an H-back scheme this past season, with the tight end lining up in the backfield on occasion.

Reserve future players do not count toward a team's offseason roster until March, but they are contractually tied to the club so no other team can sign them.
