Roosevelt officials say Higa was a 'regular student'

Advertiser Staff

Matthew M. Higa, 23, had an uneventful high school career that culminated with his graduation in 2002, Roosevelt High School Principal Ann Mahi said.

"There are no files on him having any difficulties," Mahi said today. "He was just a regular student."

Mahi said she had no first-hand knowledge of Higa because she is new to the school, as are the school vice principals.

Records show that Higa transferred to the school at the beginning of his 10th-grade year, she said.

"That was about it. We didn't see anything," Mahi said.

Mahi said one of the school's counselors remembered that Higa liked his automotive classes.

"His passion was cars," she said. "That's what I heard. He liked cars."
