Hawaii jobless rate 3.2% in Dec., highest since May '04

Hawai'i's unemployment rate rose to a seasonally adjusted 3.2 percent in December, the highest rate since May 2004, the state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations reported today.

The December rate was up from 2.9 percent in November. Despite the increase, Hawai'i was tied with two other states for the fourth-lowest unemployment rate in the nation. For the entire year Hawai'i's unemployment rate averaged 2.6 percent.

The national unemployment rate rose to 5 percent in December, up from 4.7 percent in November.
