The University of Hawai'i-Manoa Department of Theatre and Dance presents "A (Balinese) Tempest," an adaptation of Shakespeare's magical tale of comedy, romance and reconciliation. Traditional Balinese and Elizabethan elements will be fused into the production under the direction and live music of I Nyoman Sumandhi. Performers, puppeteers and musicians will be under the guest direction of Larry Reed and Kristin Pauka.

Skate punk, Christian punk, pop punk — this is the domain of MxPx, whose latest disc, "Secret Weapon," was released in July. The trio — Mike Herrera, Tom Wisniewski and Yuri Ruley — come this way every seven years or so. Guest performers include local bands Unit 101 and 82Fifty. For all ages.

"That Big 80s Show" flashes back with Atlantic Starr, right, and crooners Stevie B and Angel "The original Cover Girl." Also in store are The Breakers Revenge Showcase and beatsters DJs James Coles, Lisa D and Johnny J Jam mixing tracks from back in the day. The Hawaii Rhythm and Blues Mele '08 features Chicago blues-harmonica legend James Cotton, and his band in concerts on four islands. The show at the Hawaiian Hut also features Travis Haddix. Hits such as "I Got My Mojo Working" and "She's Nineteen Years Old" with the Muddy Waters Band solidified his "Superharp" legend status. The schedule:

    Wild costumes, pizzazz, beads, feathers, masks and more beads! "Hawaii Theatre Follies: Les Mardi Gras!" brings Bourbon Street to you as director Jack Cione teams with producer Burton White and choreographer Derek Daniels for a night that pays tribute to Chinatown, Flo Ziegfeld and his follies and the armed forces. Featured artists include the Derek Daniels Dancers, Malia and her Belly Dancers in Paradise, The Cione Tappers, salsa master Greg Henry, John Valentine, Pedro Haro, Brandy Lee, Cathy Foy-Mahi, Riya Davis, Yvette Nii, winners of Al Waterson and You keiki singing contest and more.

    Veteran ska band The Toasters, just celebrated its 25th year in 2007 and will grace O'ahu with two shows. The guys will be coming off the Vans Warped Tour in support of their latest release, "One More Bullet." Opening act Pimpbot will introduce selections from its upcoming album "Admit One," along with Golfcart Rebellion, for an all-ages show at Anna Bannana's. Go Jimmy Go, which toured Europe with The Toasters last summer, is on the bill the next night — for those 21 and older— at Chinatown hot spot NextDoor.

    Usher in the Year of the Rat at the 2008 Night in Chinatown Festival and Parade. The daylong celebration features food, martial-arts demonstrations, crafts, good-luck trinkets, lion dances, fireworks and entertainment of all sorts. The parade begins at 4 p.m. with color guards, bands, Chinese societies, marching units and a 150-foot dragon.

    The Atamira Dance Collective presents a Maori dance package erupting with history, legends, personal stories and whakapapa (genealogy and tribal links). Atamira's "Ngai Tahu 32" piece incorporates video projection, sound, waiata (traditional song), haka (war dance) and karanga (a woman's call of welcome). Shorter works on the program include "Whakairo," "Kohatu," excerpts from "Memoirs of Active Service" and an opening moteatea chant.

    Its a royal smackdown as WWE Raw presents "Road to WrestleMania Tour," featuring Randy Orton, above, and Chris Jericho in the WWE Championship Match, Triple H and Shawn Michaels vs. Umaga and Mr. Kennedy for The Return of Degeneration X. There's also "Nature Boy" Ric Flair vs. William Regal in the Win or Retire match; and Candice Michelle and Beth Phoenix battle in the WWE Women's Championship Match. Guests include Jeff Hardy, Carlito, Hardcore Holly, Cody Rhodes, Val Venis and more.

    The hottest ticket in town? The Police, right, whose first concert date sold out in less than three hours, so they added another night. The rock trio — Sting, Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers — reached its peak with the 1983 album "Synchronicity," with such hit tunes as "Every Breath You Take," "Wrapped Around Your Finger" and "King of Pain." The band members went their separate ways in 1984, but were reunited for a performance at last year's Grammy Awards. Fiction Plane is the opening act for both nights.
