LIHU'E – A fire that broke out at Kauai Pasta in Lihu'e Friday morning was contained to the kitchen area and caused about $200,000 in damage, fire officials said.

No one was in the restaurant at the time.

Firefighters and rescue specialists from the Lihu'e fire station responded to the 5:33 a.m. alarm.

Upon their arrival, they saw flames coming from a side window. They broke several jalousies, attacked the fire and broke the front door to gain entry.

The fire was extinguished within 10 minutes of the fire crew's arrival.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
