UH women top San Jose State in basketball, 70-54

Megan Tinnin scored 10 of her career-high 18 points in the opening minutes of the second half as the University of Hawaii women's basketball team put away San Jose State, 70-54, tonight in a Western Athletic Conference basketball game in San Jose, Calif.In the second half, the Rainbow Wahine (1-3 WAC, 7-10) used a 21-7 run to break a 32-32 halftime tie to put away the Spartans (0-3, 1-15). Hawaii led 53-39 with just under 10 minutes left in the game.
Tinnin, in her first start of the year, went 6 for 18 from the field, including three 3-pointers.
Dita Liepkalne scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds for Hawaii, while Tanya Smith added 11 points and eight rebounds, just missing her eighth straight double-double.
Saundra Cariaga and Iwona Zagrobelna each scored eight points for Hawai'i.
The Rainbow Wahine shot 45.9 percent from the field (28 of 61) and outrebounded San Jose State 45-23.
The Rainbow Wahine return to the Stan Sheriff Center on Thursday, when they host Boise State at 7 p.m. in their WAC home opener. UH will host Idaho on Saturday, also at 7 p.m.
