Trade winds likely to pick up during the weekend

Advertiser Staff

A high pressure area is building over and to the north of the state, according to the National Weather Service.

This will result in increased trade winds that should top out at moderate to strong levels by Monday and remain at that pace for the rest of the new week, forecasters said.

The return of the trades means scattered shower primarily in windward and mauka areas. Because of the breezy trades, some of the showers will be blown downwind over into leeward areas at times.

Here's a closer look at what to expect during the long weekend:

Today: Isolated showers. Partly cloudy, with a high near 78. East wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Tonight: Isolated showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 68. East wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Sunday: Isolated showers. Partly cloudy, with a high near 79. East wind around 16 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Sunday Night: Scattered showers, mainly before midnight. Partly cloudy, with a low around 70. East wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
