Wailuku improvement project starts Wednesday

WAILUKU — Ground will be broken Wednesday for the Market Street Improvements Project, Maui Mayor Charmaine Tavares and the Department of Public Works announced Friday.

The $6.448 million contract was awarded to Diversified Machinery Inc., and will include constructing stamped concrete pavement, resetting basalt curbs and constructing simulated basalt curbs, installing drainage facilities, installing new roadway signs and pavement markings, landscaping, roadway lighting and streetscapes.

Notice to proceed is set for Jan. 28, 2008, with an anticipated completion date of Jan. 29, 2009.

The groundbreaking ceremony will be held Wednesday, Jan. 23, at 10 a.m. at the gravel parking lot adjacent to Iao Theater. The public is advised that the gravel lot will be closed from 6 a.m. to approximately 1 p.m. to accommodate the ceremony. Parking will be available in the municipal parking lot across the street.
