Hawaii football team, others will be honored

The Parade of Champions event, honoring the University of Hawai'i football team as well as other champions from UH and from high school football, will be held tomorrow, starting from 4 p.m. in Waikiki.

Other UH champions honored will be the women's volleyball team and the women's soccer team. Like the football team, the women won Western Athletic Conference titles.

Also honored will be football champions from O'ahu from the intermediate level up.

The UH Marching Band and Rainbow Dancers, the Leilehua High School Band, the 'Iolani School Band, and the Royal Hawaiian Band also will participate.

The parade starts from Fort DeRussy (at Saratoga and Kalakaua) and ends at the Sunset on the Beach site (Kapahulu and Kalakaua).

The event will be telecast live on KHNL (channel 13, cable 8, digital 008, high definition 1008) from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

UNIVERSITY OF HAWAI'I

HIGH SCHOOL

  • Leilehua (State and O'ahu Interscholastic Association Division I champion)

  • 'Iolani (State and Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division II champion)

  • Saint Louis (ILH varsity and junior varsity champions)

  • Kaimuki (OIA Division II champion)

  • Wai'anae (OIA junior varsity Division I champion)

  • Waipahu (OIA junior varsity Division II champion)

  • Word of Life (ILH intermediate champion)

    SCHEDULE

    4 p.m. — Parade begins at Fort DeRussy

    5:15 p.m. — Live entertainment on Stage by Imua

    5:45-6:15 p.m. — Parade of Champions program on stage

    6:15-8 p.m. — Entertainment by Augie T., Vili the Warrior, Nalani Choy of Na Leo and Willie K., and other guests, plus highlights of 2007 UH football season on the Sunset on the Beach screen.

    ROAD CLOSURES

    The parade route and cross streets will be closed progressively from 2 p.m.

    City buses will detour from approximately 3:30 p.m. or when directed by police, road supervisors or The Bus central control.
