Vigil for victims of violent crime Tuesday at Capitol

Advertiser Staff

A candlelight vigil and march will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the state Capitol to show support for the families of slain toddler Cyrus Belt and 29-year-old Janel Tupuola, a Kailua woman who was beaten to death.

Both killings occurred last week. Belt, a 23-month-old toddler, was thrown to his death from the Miller Street overpass onto the H-1 Freeway on Jan. 17. Tupuola was killed on Jan. 16. Arrests have been made in both cases.

State Rep. Karen Awana, D-44th (Honokai Hale, Nanakuli, Lualualei) and Rep. John Mizuno, D-30th (Kamehameha Heights, Kalihi Valley, Fort Shafter) are encouraging people to come to show unity and support for the two families.
