Volleyball: Russia women earn Beijing Olympics berth

HALLE, Germany — Russia defeated Poland in five games today to qualify for the Beijing Olympics in women's volleyball.Russia won 25-23, 25-22, 11-25, 22-25, 15-12 for first place in the European qualifying tournament. Only the winner qualified.
Poland rallied from a two-game deficit to even it 2-2 but the world champion used a big block to win the decisive tiebreaker 15-12.
The United States, China, Italy, Brazil, Venezuela and Cuba also have clinched berths to the Olympics.
