Alves lifts BYUH men over HPU, 74-53

Lucas Alves had 19 points and 13 rebounds as Brigham Young-Hawai'i trounced Hawai'i Pacific, 74-53, last night in a Pacific West Conference men's basketball game at Cannon Activities Center in La'ie.

Jermaine Odjegba added 14 points for the Seasiders, who improved to 9-4 overall and 4-2 in the PacWest.

Ryan Walker led the Sea Warriors (4-12, 1-6) with 13 points.

CHAMINADE 63, NOTRE DAME DE NAMUR 51: Marko Kolaric scored 23 points, hitting 8 of 10 field-goal attempts, including 3 of 4 from 3-point range, as the Silverswords (12-4, 7-0) remained unbeaten in the PacWest by rolling over the Argonauts (4-9, 0-5). Rodrick Johnson added 16 points for CU.

Ryan Cooper and Chris Edwards each scored 14 points for Notre Dame De Namur.

HAWAI'I-HILO 88, GRAND CANYON 82: Jay De Maestri scored 36 points, sinking 13 of 20 shots, including 6 of 9 from 3-point range, as the Vulcans (8-5, 4-2) held off the Antelopes (9-6, 4-4). Vince Alvarado added 15 points and Perry Baggett 11 for Hilo.

Ladi Makinde led Grand Canyon with 23 points.

PACWEST WOMEN

GRAND CANYON 68, HAWAI'I-HILO 67: Samantha Murphy scored 23 points, hitting 10 of 10 free throws, as the visiting Antelopes (10-9, 6-2) handed the Vulcans (5-8, 5-1) their first conference loss.

Sara Dalgliesh added 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Rosalyn Nelson had 13 points for Grand Canyon, which made 12 of 16 free throws in the final minute and 47 seconds.

Hilo's Krystlelyn Omlan scored 15 points, on 5-of-7 3-point shooting that included one with two seconds to play for the final margin. Nesha Kimitete added 13 points, including three 3-pointers in the final 2:54 as the Vulcans overcame a 56-45 deficit to tie the score at 64 with 21 seconds to play.

Grand Canyon then iced the game with four free throws.

HAWAI'I PACIFIC 70, BRIGHAM YOUNG-HAWAI'I 68: Ashley Jenkins scored 20 points and the visiting Sea Warriors (3-13, 3-4) hit 7 of 8 free throws in the final 1:20 to hold off the Seasiders (2-13, 2-4). Jocelyn Norris added 11 points and 14 rebounds, and Angela Spence had 12 points for HPU.

Richelle Fenenbock scored 15 points, Shaina Siliga added 13, including a 3-pointer as time expired, and Lei Lolohea 10 for BYUH.

NOTRE DAME DE NAMUR 66, CHAMINADE 58: Tanaia Keyes scored 21 points as the visiting Argonauts (3-10, 3-2) beat the Silverswords (0-14, 0-7).

Samantha Saito had 22 points and five assists, and Katherine Carlisle added 19 points for Chaminade.
