Poets getting versed for HawaiiSlam competition

The next qualifying round of fifth official HawaiiSlam season is set for 8:30 p.m. Feb. 7 at Hawaiian Hut is located on the Ala Moana Hotel grounds, near the diamond head side of the Ala Moana shopping center.

The top two poets will qualify for the HawaiiSlam Finals in April that will determine the team to represent Hawai'i at the 2008 National Poetry Slam in Madison, Wis.

The evening's feature poet will be Tshaka Menelik Imhotep Campbell. Originally from London England and of Jamaican decent, Tshaka has been writing poetry for 10 years. As a seasoned writer and performer, Tshaka was a member of the 2004 Nuyorican Slam Team, the 2005 San Francisco Slam Team, and the 2006-2007 Hollywood Slam team.

In addition to poetry the event will feature live painters, massages in the lounge, and a guest DJ.
