Surf on the rise along Oahu's north, west shores

Advertiser Staff

A high-surf advisory is in effect for north- and west-facing shores today, the National Weather Service said.

Surf along north-facing shores is going to be 8 feet to 12 feet overnight but increase to 12 feet to 16 feet by this afternoon.

Surf along west-facing shores will rise to 6 feet to 8 feet overnight, then increase to heights of 8 feet to 12 feet by this afternoon.

Elsewhere, surf along eastern shores will be 3 feet to 5 feet overnight, rising to heights of 4 feet to 6 feet today and surf along southern shores will remain at 2 feet to 4 feet.

The new northwest swell will peak tonight, then gradually subside Tuesday. Strong trade winds will likely boost surf heights along east-facing shores near the high-surf advisory threshold by mid-week. No other significant swells are expected, the National Weather Service said.
