Mother Marianne service tomorrow at co-cathedral

Advertiser Staff

The Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa will hold a special service at 7 p.m. tomorrow to honor Mother Marianne Cope.

Mother Marianne is one of two people with Hawaii ties who is being considered for sainthood by the Catholic church. The nun was a leader of the order of St. Francis who came to Hawaii 125 years ago at the request of King Kalakaua to take care of Hawaii's embattled leper population.

There will be a reception and a catered dinner afterward.

A women's choir made up of members of the Honolulu Symphony Choir and Kamehameha Alumni will perform an original mele by Sean Tiwanak and E. Napua Paele.
