A fire Monday night that gutted a comfort station at Kaka'ako Gateway Park started in a rubbish can, according to Honolulu Fire Department investigators.

Police are investigating the 9:43 p.m. fire as a first-degree arson. No one has been arrested.

HFD spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig said damage is estimated at $100,000 to the structure.

According to police, the fire destroyed a men's restroom and storage room, and badly damaged a women's restroom.
