Rally set to support Pacific Beach Hotel workers

Advertiser Staff

More than a hundred union members of Communication Workers of America District 9 in Honolulu for their annual meeting this week plan to rally in support of Pacific Beach Hotel workers from noon to 1 p.m. today in front of the hotel.

Hotel owner HTH Corp. has been accused of multiple violations of federal labor law, including discrimination against union supporters and the refusal to recognize the workers' government-certified vote for representation with the union of their choice — ILWU Local 142.

CWA District 9 membership is comprises workers from California, Nevada and Hawai'i. Members include telephone workers, flight attendants, television and radio technicians, newspaper workers, and others about 650,000 nationwide.

"We were very moved and sincerely grateful when CWA called and said that their members would like to do an action in support of the Pacific Beach Hotel workers, especially on a day when the hotel is holding an "appreciation party" for its employees," said ILWU Local 142 spokesman Dave Mori.
