Skiing: American Macartney out of hospital

INNSBRUCK, Austria — American skier Scott Macartney was released from a hospital today, four days after he suffered a concussion and was placed in a medically induced coma following a crash during a World Cup downhill race.The 30-year-old Macartney has flown home to Salt Lake City where he was to undergo follow-up neurological tests, the Austria Press Agency reported.
Klaus Lottersberger, spokesman for the Innsbruck clinic that treated Macartney, said the swelling was down and the skier was healing well. Macartney was clocked at 87 mph when he crashed Saturday in Kitzbuehel.
The race was interrupted for half an hour after Macartney, the second skier, lost his balance at the final jump and fell on his head, the impact breaking his helmet. He briefly lost consciousness and organizers said at the time he had a brain contusion.
He was flown to Innsbruck, where doctors placed him in a coma from which he awoke on Sunday.
