Baseball: Major League set for China announcement

Associated Press

BEIJING — Major League Baseball officials traveled to China for tomorrow's formal announcement of a two-game exhibition series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres on March 15 and 16.

Dodgers manager Joe Torre and Padres Hall of Famer Dave Winfield were set to appear at a reception promoting the series, which will be played at 12,000-seat Wukesong Baseball Field, to be used at this summer's Beijing Olympics.

"The Dodgers' ties to Asia date back more than half a century, so it's only fitting that as we celebrate 50 years in Los Angeles, we are fortunate enough to take part in this historic series," Dodgers owner Frank McCourt said in a statement.
