Hawaii index surges led by local bank stocks

The Bloomberg-Honolulu Advertiser Hawai'i Index jumped as the Dow Jones industrial average and other indexes rose in volatile trading sessions.

The 11-member Hawai'i index increased 3.19 points to 86.67 as seven issues gained and four declined. It was up about 1.8 percent for the day.

The gains were led by local bank stocks as Bank of Hawaii increased $3.87 to $48.79, or 8.7 percent.

Central Pacific Financial surged 13 percent in rising $2.09 to $18.07.
