Mourners gather for Cyrus Belt's funeral

Advertiser Staff

Family, friends and strangers paid their respects tonight to Cyrus Nainoa Tupai Belt, the 23-month-old boy who was dropped to his death from an H-1 Freeway overpass last week.

Cyrus' body was dressed in a black suit, and lay in a white undersized coffin with white lace draped over the open casket.

A medley of Disney songs played at Nuuanu Memorial Park and Mortuary as mourners waited for the 6 p.m. funeral service to begin.

Cyrus' father, David Belt, arrived at the chapel before 4 p.m. and was crying as he was escorted away by law enforcement officers, said Raynelle Adams of 'Aiea, who was one of the first to arrive with her boyfriend, Eddie Montecillo.

Belt was given permission by the Department of Public Safety to attend the services because he is incarcerated at Waiawa's minimum-security facility.
