Trade winds, showers likely to last through weekend

A high-pressure area north of the state will keep the trade winds blowing over the Islands and trade wind showers pushing ashore along the windward side of O'ahu, according to the National Weather Service.

Both the winds and the shower activity will increase up through Friday night and will slowly diminish as the new week begins, forecasters said.

Here's a closer look at what to expect during the next few days:

Today: Isolated showers. Partly cloudy, with a high near 80. East wind around 11 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Tonight: Scattered showers, mainly before midnight. Partly cloudy, with a low around 70. East wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Friday: Isolated showers. Partly cloudy, with a high near 80. East wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Friday night: Scattered showers, mainly before midnight. Partly cloudy, with a low around 69. East wind around 14 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Saturday: Scattered showers, mainly after noon. Partly cloudy, with a high near 80. East wind around 14 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Saturday night: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69. East wind around 14 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
