James Cotton to bring the Chicago blues to Hawaii

The Hawaii Rhythm and Blues Mele '08 will next week bring Chicago blues-harmonica legend James Cotton and his band to four islands, including a Thursday show at the Hawaiian Hut that also features Travis Haddix. Cotton, whose harp (that's harmonica) mastery is legend, opened for Sonny Boy Williamson and played with Muddy Waters in Mississippi. Hawai'i's own Willie K and the Maui Tribe Blues Band will open each concert.

The schedule:

  • 7:30 p.m. Wednesday (doors open at 7 p.m.) at Kaua'i Community College Performing Arts Center. Tickets: $45, advance; 808-896-4845.
