East Hawaii council to be briefed on harbor upgrades

HILO — The Governor's East Hawai'i Community Advisory Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 31, in the Hawai'i Innovation Center Conference Room (the old Bank of Hawai'i building) located at 117 Keawe St. in Hilo, according to a news release. The public is invited to attend.

Interim Department of Transportation Director Brennon Morioka and Deputy Transportation Director for Harbors Mike Formby will make a presentation on the state's Harbor Modernization Plan.

The six-year, $824.1 million Harbors Modernization Plan calls for major improvements to the state's harbors, including $61.4 million for the Hilo and $87.8 million for the Kawaihae harbors on the Big Island.

Lingle created the Community Advisory Council to give the Neighbor Islands a stronger voice in state government. The East Hawai'i Community Advisory Council holds monthly public meetings to seek community input and advise the governor of important issues, public priorities and recommendations for state boards and commissions.

The members of the Governor's East Hawaii Community Advisory Council are Ken Ah Lo, Andy Baclig, Julie Hugo, Dianne Morgado, Alton Okinaka, Greg Ruhland, Norman Stahl, Carol VanCamp and Jennifer Zelko.
