PUKALANI, Maui — Junior guard Lincoln Seto carried the Baldwin High School boys basketball team to a crucial victory last night at Kamehameha Schools Maui, providing key plays into the final seconds of a 62-58 double-overtime win.

Seto made four 3-pointers and finished with 22 points, sinking four of six foul shots in the second overtime.

"We hung in there, we know we practiced hard all week and we knew what to expect from last time, so we wanted to come in and show everybody,'' Seto said to The Maui News

Said Baldwin coach Wayne Gushiken: "I tell you what, this team never gives up and they showed it tonight. Both sides played really great basketball. It was a good, crowd-pleasing game.''

Baldwin and Kamehameha are tied for second in the Maui Interscholastic League Division I standings at 7-3.

Kekoa Turbeville scored 16 points for the Warriors, Kaleo Demello had 15 and Erwin DeCoite added 12 .

Micah Shibano sank a jumper to set things in motion for Baldwin in the second overtime, and after DeCoite fouled out, the Warriors were left short-handed in the post.

Viliami Lavaka put back a shot to give the Bears a four-point lead, and George Firmignac put the Bears in front by six.

"We usually tell them the crowd's going crazy but you guys got to stay focused,'' Gushiken said. "I think that's what they did tonight.''

Turbeville kept the Warriors alive with consecutive baskets, but Seto had the final say in the end.

"I know our backs were against the wall, we had a 4-2 record, but we wanted to show everybody we ain't out of it yet,'' Seto said.

Seto hit consecutive 3-pointers toward the end of the first half, which ended in a 24-24 tie.

"That's what Lincoln is capable of every night,'' Gushiken said. "We had to rein him in the last couple of games, cut down on his turnovers and mistakes, but tonight he did pretty good, he did a good job, especially in the last two overtimes.''

The Warriors opened the third quarter on a 10-4 run for their biggest lead of the game.

Baldwin rallied, however, helped by two 3-pointers by Seto, and tied the score at 40.

Kamehameha's Kaiea Medeiros hit one of two free throws for the final points of regulation which ended with the score 48-48.

Lavaka's two foul shots created a 52-52 tie after the first OT.
