Hawaii Youth Symphony ensembles at Tenney Jan. 29

The Hawaii Youth Symphony will present a one-of-a-kind chamber performance including ensembles comprised of students from various schools at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Tenney Theatre, St. Andrews Cathedral, 229 Queen Emma Square.

Twenty-two students, ages 14 to 17, representing 11 schools, will present works they have been working on with coaches from the Honolulu Symphony.

The recital is free.

Five ensembles will perform. They are:

Jang String Quartet, coached by Iggy Jang, Concertmaster, Honolulu Symphony

Hazzard String Quartet, coached by Claire Sakai Hazzard, Associate Concertmaster, Honolulu Symphony

Barrett Woodwind Quintet, coached by Paul Barrett, Principal, bassoon, Honolulu Symphony

Philips String Sextet, coached by Emma Philips, first violin, Honolulu Symphony

Miyamura Woodwind Trio, coached by Henry Miyamura, Music Director, Hawaii Youth Symphony

Repertoire for the evening includes works by Joseph Haydn, Ludwig van Beethoven, Serge Prokofieff, Antonin Dvorjk and Franz Danzi.
