Weather: Sunny today, showers likely tonight

A high-pressure area far north of the Islands will continue to build and fill in to the south through tomorrow bringing an increase in trade winds, according to the National Weather Service.

Moderate to fresh trade winds are expected to continue into next week, forecasters said.

Relatively dry trade wind weather will continue today with only a few windward showers. Trade wind showers will likely increase tonight and Saturday, followed by typical trade wind weather for the remainder of the weekend and into the early portion of the new week.

Here's a closer look at what to expect during the next few days:

Today: Sunny, with a high near 81. East wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Tonight: Showers likely, mainly before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. Breezy, with a east wind around 21 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Saturday: Scattered showers, mainly before noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. Breezy, with a east wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Saturday night: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69. East wind around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Sunday: Scattered showers, mainly after noon. Partly cloudy, with a high near 80. East wind around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Sunday night: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. East wind around 14 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
