Security training course open to public on Big Island

The public is invited to attend a free two-day security training course on the Big Island which is certified by the Department of Homeland Security and sponsored, in part, by the Hawaii County Police Department.Called "Creating Vigilant, Prepared, and Resilient Communities for Homeland Security: A Community Outreach Approach to Homeland Security," the training will provide an opportunity for community members to work with others to address homeland security threats at the community level. The training, taught by members of the Western Community Policing Institute, will be held Feb. 7 and 8 at the Fairmont Orchid Hotel in Waikoloa. It is sponsored by the Hawaii Police Department and the Fairmont Orchid.
The training is open to community members, local businesses, nonprofit organizations, faith-based organizations, government officials, emergency management agencies, school groups and other groups or individuals interested in building partnerships to make our community safer.
The class size is limited to 60 and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
All participants must complete a registration form, which is available on the Police Department's Web site. (Go to www.hawaiipolice.com and click on "news releases"). Applications may be mailed or faxed to the address on the form and must be received by Feb. 1.
