Advertiser Staff

The Lihu'e man who was killed in a traffic accident Saturday was identified today as Troy Medina, Kaua'i officials said.

Medina, 35, and his wife, who was listed in good condition at The Queen's Medical Center, were involved in a 3:14 p.m. accident Saturday on Kuhio Highway near the Wailua Golf Course, said Mary Daubert, county spokeswoman.

The accident occurred when a tire blew off a southbound pick-up truck, causing it to fall on its side.

A northbound motorist struck the tire, lost control of the vehicle, crossed the center line and struck Medina's truck. Medina died at the scene and his wife was initially taken to Wilcox Hospital and later airlifted to Queen's.

It was the second fatality of the year for Kaua'i.
