MEMPHIS, Tenn. — John Calipari knew his Memphis Tigers would need a little jolt right about now. That's why he wanted to play Gonzaga at this point of the season. He got what he hoped for from the Bulldogs.

And his top-ranked Tigers still won.

Chris Douglas-Roberts scored 21 points and Derrick Rose added 19 as Memphis remained undefeated with an 81-73 victory yesterday.

"You can't make mistakes on a team like Gonzaga," Douglas-Roberts said. "Gonzaga will capitalize on every mistake. That's why we needed a game like this. A lot of teams we've been playing aren't capitalizing on our mistakes, so we didn't know what to do and what not to do."

This was the first time in school history the Tigers got to play on their own court as the top-ranked team, and they trailed for only a little more than a minute late in the first half before a sold-out crowd.

The Tigers (19-0) extended the nation's longest home winning streak to 43 straight by showing off their athleticism and running over Gonzaga (15-5), which saw its six-game winning streak snapped.

The Bulldogs took Memphis to overtime before losing in Spokane last season. This time, they had to be happy with keeping within single digits at the end.

"You almost have to be perfect in here, and that's a little hard to pull off," Gonzaga coach Mark Few said.

Antonio Anderson added 12 points for Memphis, and Joey Dorsey had nine points and 13 rebounds before fouling out late. Calipari joined Larry Finch as the only Memphis coaches with at least 200 wins, improving to 200-63 in his eighth season.

Jeremy Pargo led Gonzaga with 25 points while Josh Heytvelt added 13 and Micah Downs 11. Matt Bouldin was held to six points, well below his team-leading average of 14.7 per game.

The Bulldogs pulled within 62-55 on a three-point play by Bouldin with 8:08 left.

Rose answered with two free throws, the Tigers forced Gonzaga into a shot clock violation and Douglas-Roberts hit the first of two at the line. Rose added a jumper, then Douglas-Roberts dunked for a 69-55 lead with 5:52 to go.

The Bulldogs got within six inside the final minute but no closer than that even though Memphis went 7-of-12 from the line down the stretch.

NO. 2 KANSAS 84, NEBRASKA 49

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Darrell Arthur scored 18 points, and Brandon Rush had 17 points and eight rebounds to power the Jayhawks (20-0, 5-0 Big 12), who led 44-15 at halftime, past the Cornhuskers (11-6, 0-4) to kept pace with No. 1 Memphis (19-0) as the nation's only unbeaten Division I teams.

Aleks Maric, the Huskers' 6-foot-11 senior who had been averaging almost 17 points, failed to score for the first time since his sophomore year. He was 0-for-6 from the field and 0-for-2 from the line in 21 minutes.

NO. 3 TENNESSEE 85, GEORGIA 69

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Chris Lofton hit seven 3-pointers and scored a season-high 27 points, including 20 when the Volunteers (17-2, 4-1 Southeastern Conference) rolled to a 43-22 halftime lead, to help rout the Bulldogs (11-6, 2-2), who were playing their first conference road game and first Top-25 opponent this season.

CONNECTICUT 68, NO. 7 INDIANA 63

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Fill-in starter Craig Austrie had 15 points and the Huskies (14-5), without starting guard Jerome Dyson and backup Doug Wiggins, who were suspended Friday for violating team rules, used a 34-16 scoring advantage in the paint to snap the Hoosiers' (17-2) 13-game winning streak and their 29-game home winning streak.

The Hoosiers hadn't lost at home since Feb. 11, 2006, and hadn't shot this poorly all season. Indiana, the Big Ten's best shooting team, was just 8-of-29 from the field in the first half (27.6 percent) and 23-of-62 for the game (37.1 percent).

Brian Butch had 20 points and 13 rebounds for the Badgers, who got the ball, trailing 58-56 with 10 seconds left.
