NFL: Dolphins add more assistants

Associated Press

MIAMI — The Miami Dolphins hired more assistants today, as the team continued to fill out the staff of new coach Tony Sparano.

John Bonamego will join Miami as its special teams coordinator, George DeLeone has been named tight ends coach and David Puloka has been hired as assistant strength and conditioning coach. Steve Bush has been hired as offensive quality control coach.

Bonamego has spent the last nine seasons in the NFL, including the past two as the New Orleans Saints' special teams coach. From 2003-05, Bonamego worked with the special teams unit for the Green Bay Packers.

DeLeone comes to the Dolphins after spending the past two seasons as offensive coordinator at Temple University. His lone year of NFL experience was in 1997, with the San Diego Chargers.

Puloka was the assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Atlanta Falcons during the 2007 season. He held the same job at the University of Virginia from 2005-06 before he joined Atlanta's coaching staff.

Bush was previously the defensive backs coach at Syracuse in 2000, and later the school's quarterbacks coach from 2001-04.

Miami also announced today it had hired former VMI head coach Jim Reid as outside linebackers coach. Last week, the school confirmed Reid accepted the Dolphins' offer. Reid had a 3-19 record in two years at VMI.
