Kamehameha play read tomorrow at Kumu Kahua

Advertiser Staff

A playreading session on "Waiting for a King," a work focusing on King Kamehameha I's last interviews with those closest to him, will be held at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at Kumu Kahua Theatre, 46 Merchant St.

The work — in the style of a Greek tragedy — taps such historical figures as Liholiho, Kamehameha's heir; Kekuaokalani, his nephew; Ka'ahumanu, is queen — and debates the wisdom of actions by the ali'i and how they may have impacted Hawaiians today.

Admission is free.

Refreshments will be served and a discussion will follow the playreading — the third in Kumu Kahua's current season.
