Main break repaired, Ala Wai roadway reopened

Advertiser Staff

Ala Wai between McCully Street and Kalakaua Avenue, which had been closed to traffic due to a main break since 10:30 last night, was reopened tonight at 7:30 p.m.

The Board of Water Supply completed repair work on the broken 16-inch water main at 1 p.m. today, about two hours after service was restored to Waikiki Landmark residents and businesses, the only customer affected by the break, said BWS spokeswoman Wanda Yamane.

A contractor finished repair work on the damaged roadway, which included a sinkhole that was more than 12-feet wide and 5-feet deep, at 7:30 p.m., Yamane said.
