Sinkhole to shut part of Ala Wai Boulevard for 2 days

Advertiser Staff

Ala Wai Boulevard between McCully Street and Kalakaua Avenue will be closed to traffic over the next two days because of a large sinkhole, police said.

The hole was created late last night when a 16-inch water main broke, leaving residents at the 1888 Kalakaua Avenue — the Waikiki Landmark — without water services this morning. A water truck is on location for the residents.

The Board of Water Supply has been repairing the broken main overnight and continues to work on it.

Traffic is being diverted around the area.
