Oahu schools get nearly $3.5M for improvement work

Gov. Linda Lingle released $3,443,303 yesterday for improvement projects at Waialua and Shafter elementary schools and Roosevelt and Kapolei high schools.

At Waialua Elementary, $2.5 million is targeted for the construction of a new, larger library and media center to better meet the school's current enrollment needs. Design is scheduled to be completed in July 2008 and construction is scheduled to be completed in September 2009.

At Shafter Elementary $349,000 will be used to upgrade a fire sprinkler system and the fire access road at Roosevelt High School will also be upgraded to meet fire code standards. The total project cost is estimated to be $1,239,000, with $900,000 released by the governor in 2005 and 2006. Construction is scheduled to be completed in June 2009.

At Kapolei High School, $343,303 has been released to construct additional components for the school's athletic complex, including visitor bleachers, an announcer's booth, restrooms, and ticket and concession booths. The total project cost is $5,643,303, with $5.3 million released by the governor for design and construction in 2006 and 2007. Construction is scheduled to be completed in June 2009.
