Vegas' Monte Carlo still closed as fire damage assessed

Associated Press

LAS VEGAS — MGM Mirage Inc. says workers will begin moving equipment onto the roof of the Monte Carlo casino-hotel today to help assess damage and begin repairs.

High winds prevented the work from taking place Monday.

It is unclear when the Monte Carlo will be able to reopen for business.

Clark County building officials have said the casino-hotel cannot reopen until parts of the facade that were damaged in a fire on Friday are secured or removed.

MGM Mirage spokesman Gordon Absher says the financial impact of the hotel's closure is complicated by several factors, including that displaced guests have been put in other MGM Mirage properties.

The company also has insurance policies to cover fire and to cover interruptions in the business.
