Police seeking Hilo man after bar fight

Advertiser Staff

HILO, Hawai'i — Big Island police are looking for a 26-year-old man wanted in connection with a pair of assaults at a bar on Maka'ala street in the Hilo industrial area early Sunday.

Joshua Labrador is described as about 5-feet-6, weighing about 230 pounds, with brown eyes and short brown hair.

Police responded to a report of a disturbance at the bar in which a 33-year-old male patron suffered multiple fractures to his jaw, and the man's 40-year-old sister suffered a deep cut to her face.

Police said when they arrived, they encountered a large group of "rowdy" individuals, some of whom were challenging others in the crowd to fight. The officers used Tasers during the encounter, and arrested Jarrett Labrador, 28, and another 25-year-old man.

Jarrett Labrador was charged with third-degree assault and disorderly conduct, and was released after posting $300 bail. The man arrested with him was released pending further investigation

Police are still looking for Joshua Labrador, who is Jarrett's brother and was allegedly involved in the attacks.

The injured man was taken to Hilo Medical Center, and was scheduled to be flown to The Queen's Medical Center for further treatment. The injured woman was treated and released.

Police ask that anyone who witnessed the incident or knows the whereabouts of Joshua Labrador call Detective Robert Hatton at 808-961-2380 or the Police Department's non-emergency number at 808-935-3311.
