Toddler buried today in Kaneohe

Advertiser Staff

Family, friends and strangers said their last good-byes to Cyrus Belt this afternoon at a graveside memorial in Kaneohe that for some brought a sense of closure following the toddler's violent death.

About 80 people attended the service at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery, at the foot of the Koolau Range.

Cyrus' tiny white coffin was carried by family members, including his grandfather and uncle.

He was thrown to his death from a freeway overpass Jan. 17.

Matthew Higa, 23, has pleaded not guilty to a charge of second-degree murder in the case.

The boy's body was buried in a section of the cemetery, set aside for children, that is called Babyland 2.
