Advertiser Staff

Keali'i Reichel and Halaua Ke'alaokamaile will present Kukahi 2008, their annual spectacle of hula, mele and chant, in three performances at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 15 and 2 and 7:30 p.m. Feb. 16 at Maui Arts & Cultural Center's Castle Theatre.

The event is staged on or close to Valentine's Day each year and is part of the MACC's Ho'onanea Series.

Reichel is arguably the state's most popular recording and concert artist and has won more than 20 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards. He also is a previous nominee for the Hawaiian Grammy Award. He is kumu hula of Halau Ke'alaokamaile.

His music and dance embrace virtues of both traditional and contemporary Hawaiian poetry and mele and he is known for both a Hawaiian and English repertoire of music.

Tickets: $45, $35 and $10 (half price for children 12 and under), available at 808-242-7469 or at www.mauiarts.org.

Pre-show festivities for evening performances begin at 5:30 p.m. in the courtyard, with hula by 'Iliahi and Haunani Paredes and halau Kekuakala'au'au'iliahi. Besides entertainment, there will be Hawaiian crafts, lei and food and beverage selections.
