KIHEI
Hours extended at Maui beach parks for sunsets

Advertiser Staff

Maui County is extending hours at several beach parks in Kihei and Wailea to allow residents and visitors to enjoy the sunset.

The action was taken in response to requests by the Kihei Community Association and area residents, according to Parks and Recreation Director Tamara Horcajo. The extended hours were given a trial period that began June 1.

The new closing time of 8 p.m. extends park use by one hour, and will apply to Mai-poina-'oe-ia'u, once the restroom is completed, Kalepolepo, Waipuilani, Charley Young, Cove Park, Kama'ole I, II and III, Keawakapu, Polo Beach, Ulua Beach, Wailea Beach, Makena Landing, Makena Comfort Station I and II, Keonekai and Kilohana.

Appropriate signage will be posted in the near future, Horcajo said.

Hours at Kalama and Kenolio parks will remain the same, with a closing time of 10 p.m. The remaining parks in South Maui, including Maui Raceway, Hale Pi'ilani, Haycraft and Po'olenalena, will continue to close at 7 p.m.
