The Hawaiian Grammys are going "live" this year. For the first time, the pre-telecast Grammy ceremonies — during which the Hawaiian Music Grammy is awarded Feb. 10 — will be broadcast live at the Grammy Web site, enabling Hawai'i fans to witness in real time who wins the trophy, complete with winner reactions.

Watch the live broadcast from the Los Angeles Convention Center at www.grammy.com, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Hawaii time.

The Hawaiian category is in its fourth year.

To promote their Hawaiian Grammy-nominated CDs, three camps of Island musicians appear at meet-and-greet and album-signing events in California next week. Ex-pats in Sacramento, San Francisco, Costa Mesa and Los Angeles may want to link up with the contenders.

Cyril Pahinui ("He'eia"), Tia Carrere with Daniel Ho ("Hawaiiana"), and Keoki Kahumoku with Ho ("Treasures of the Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar") will be among those making appearances at Borders stores in California. (Ho is connected to two nominated CDs; he produced Carrere's disc and co-produced and performed on the slack key nominee.)

The other nominees, Keola Beamer ("Ka Hikina O Ka Hau — The Coming of Snow") and Raiatea Helm ("Hawaiian Blossom"), will not attend the ceremonies.

California appearances by Hawaiian Grammy nominees:

Sacramento — 7 p.m. Feb. 5, Borders Sacramento, at 2339 Fair Oaks Blvd. 415-399-1633.

San Francisco — 1 p.m. Feb. 6, Borders Union Square, at 400 Post St. 415-399-1633.

Los Angeles — 12:30 p.m. Feb. 9, Borders Torrance, at 3700 Torrance Blvd. 310-540-7000. (Joining Ho and Kahumoku: George Kahumoku Jr., Richard Ho'opi'i, Peter deAquino and Sterling Seaton).
