AHA to kick off heart health program in Honolulu
Advertiser Staff
The American Heart Association wants you to wear red tomorrow when it kicks off American Heart month, with Go Red For Women/Start! programs.
The free noontime event tomorrow is at Tamarind Park.
Go Red For Women is a national initiative aimed at educating women about their risk for heart disease. Start! is the AHA's national initiative to encourage more people to become active by walking. The AHA offers a free on-line tool, My Start! Online where participants can log their daily activity and food intake with the goal of achieving a healthy balance.
The first registered 250 people to participate in a short walk around the downtown area, led by Lt. Gov. James "Duke" Aiona, will receive free prizes along the suggested route including apples, Jamba Juice samples, healthy alternatives from Kellogg's and Meadow Gold Dairy, and a pedometer provided by AstraZenica. A health fair in Tamarind Park will offer free blood pressure checks and informational materials. AHA volunteer physicians will also be on hand to answer medical-related questions.
