Big Island's fourth traffic fatality was visitor from Japan

An 84-year-old man from Japan died Tuesday from injuries suffered in a one-vehicle traffic crash Friday on Big Island's Saddle Road.Police identified the man as Sunao Kashiwai of Shimame, Japan, who died at 9:30 p.m. at The Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu.
Kashiwai was a passenger in a 2002 Honda multipurpose vehicle driven by a Kea'au man, 56.
According to South Kona patrol officers, the driver lost control of the east-bound vehicle, which ran off the right side of the road and overturned eight-tenths of a mile west of the 45-mile marker at about 3 p.m.
The driver, Kashiwai and Kashiwai's 70-year-old wife were taken to North Hawai'i Community Hospital.
The death is the Big Island's fourth traffic fatality of the year and third since Jan. 28.
