KALIHI
Comments sought on massive sewer project

Advertiser Staff

The city is seeking comments on a draft environmental assessment for a massive sewer rehabilitation project that will stretch from Kalihi to Nu'uanu and kick off as early as April.

The $48 million project will jam traffic on thoroughfares and small streets alike, and force crews to dig up backyards to get at aging sewer lines.

About 25 miles of pipeline will be replaced or repaired in the project, set to wrap up by late 2009.

Though the work will disrupt traffic and cause plenty of noise, the draft EA anticipates a finding of no significant impact. The deadline to submit comments on the environmental assessment is Feb. 22.

Send comments to the city Department of Design and Construction, 650 S. King St., Honolulu, HI 96813. For more information, call 768-8750.
