Advertiser Staff

University of Hawai'i senior Kate Robinson is one of 50 athletes named to the watch list for the USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Year award.

Robinson, a pitcher and first baseman, is the first UH player to be named to the watch list.

A list of 25 finalists will be announced on April 9. That list will be cut to 10 on May 7 and three on May 21. The player of the year will be announced prior to the Women's College World Series.

Robinson was the Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year last season after going 8-0 in conference play. She was 17-1 overall with a 2.01 ERA in 136 innings pitched.

Robinson also set school single-season records with 19 home runs and 72 RBIs, while batting .358.

Previous winners of the national player of the year award include three-time winner Cat Osterman of Texas and last year's winner Monica Abbott of Tennessee.
