Round Top, Waahila Ridge state parks to close early on July 4

Advertiser Staff

The Department of Land and Natural Resources will close the entrance gates to Pu'u 'Ualaka'a (Round Top) and Wa'ahila Ridge state parks at 4 p.m. Friday.

"We are closing these parks early to discourage illegal use of fireworks, which is prohibited in all state parks, and to protect the public and natural resources of the area. Rising temperatures, lower humidity and unauthorized use of fireworks could lead to unnecessary wildfires," DLNR chairwoman Laura H. Thielen said in a news release.

Normal park hours will resume on Saturday, with the parks opening at 7 a.m. and closing at 7:45 p.m. For further information call the Division of State Parks, 587-0300.
